In 2019, I designed a personal project, exploring the potential to alter common expressions. The focus was time - a concept both potent and enigmatic. The distinct, asynchronous movements of a clock's second, minute, and hour hands inspired this exploration, offering a fresh perspective on our most integral dimension. The material and color selection for this project were influenced by a fascination with monochrome aesthetics and a desire for an unconventional blend. Finally I chose concrete and felt, two seemingly incongruous materials. The contrasting characteristics of concrete's sturdiness and felt's softness made unique textural and color possibilities.
To keep the possibility of personalization and modularity, I considered and tested other colors and materials during the design process, as it can be seen on the color palette and mood-board of the product. In 2020, this project was recognized in the form of an honorable mention at the IDA Awards. It served as a subtle reminder that designers have the ability to reshape the familiar, introducing alternative ways of understanding everyday phenomena. The project was less about personal achievement and more about the idea that change can emerge from unexpected combinations and expressions.
